Hobby Drop-in Group Raughton Head Parish Magazine
Hobby Group
I thought I might share some inspirations that came my way in these last months, as I meander through making things and clearing up some old projects. I think the idea of doing a Zoom chat would not really work for me, as I do not have the technical skills and broad band width to allow us to chat as we might like to do in the group, while hands are busy with crafting.
There have been quite few ideas for knitting projects that I see others have taken up the challenge for different charities and good causes. Something that caught my eye was the term “Craftivism”, which was new to me.
I was delighted to watch the BBC 4 documentary programme on this subject with Jenny Eclair. It gave a thoughtful insight to the many ways some are using their craft skills to make known issues and concerns from around the world in quiet, yet powerfully visible ways.
It made me think of our Tibetan prayer flags and all that they might represent for those who made them and those who see them flying in the breeze by our church at All Saints.
We will get to meet again as the famous song reminds us.
In the meantime please feel free to share any pictures of ideas for the Hobby group by email to me and see if you think you might be a Craftivism activist!

Best wishes for now.

Hobby Drop-in Group
We meet on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month from 10.00 am - 11.30 am. in All Saints Church, Raughton Head.

The "New' Normal
We will continue with the twice a month meetings at 10.00 am. -11.30 am. on Wednesday 7th and 21st October. The plan is to meet in the church with social distancing measures in place. The group is generally less than 6, so within limits and we should all wear masks as in current guidelines. There are hand sanitisers in church. We have use of the whole church space so we are able to spread out and use the new tables at the approved distances. We will not provide any refreshments, but feel welcome to bring your own.
I will bring along some materials if anyone is interested in making a Harvest thanksgiving prayer flag.
Please check the Prayer Flags page for ideas and instructions.

Or navigate from within the Parish Magazine (http://www.raughtonheadparishmagazine.org.uk)
using the three bar toggle (top RHS).

The group creates a meeting place for local folk to meet and share their creative ideas. We are encouraging each other with various projects and share materials no longer needed. Spring cleaning time might uncover more craft projects yet to complete or share.
The community rag rug is still in progress and has worked around the edges; as one does in life. It now needs some more volunteers to learn the fine art of ‘clippy’ or ‘proddy’ mat making. We use recycled wool fabrics to complete the design of 'tulips in a vase.’
You are welcome to call in for a chat, a brew and to observe historic skills coming into their own again.
In the past year, we celebrated the creative talents of the community with a festival in church in October. The group have contributed many items for charity groups, the Shoe box appeal being one. We are open to any suggestions or requests to make hand-made items. The group have been kindly supported by the Parish Council Grants to acquire two sturdy fold-up tables which will allow for more projects to get underway. This support is greatly appreciated. Refreshments provided and any donations go to church funds.
