The Annual Bike ride - Thanks
An early trip out this year but perhaps one of the better available Saturdays. Enthusiasm was boundless as the teenies barely checked their brakes and jetted off down Haythwaite Lane on their multi coloured steeds, only friction and parents slowing them. Passed the army encampment at The Whins, picking up some duck eggs if you had the balancing skills (and money). Through the shelter of the tall trees and along the flat to Brecon Hill. After the long incline to Windy Fell a welcome drinks break was again provided by Sheila and Keith Mobey. Roaring off through Hudbeck to struggle up and around by the Greens. A quiet road without a much missed Bell Bridge to take traffic over the Caldew. A well formed peleton navigated the tricky Lambfield corner, with much thanks to some well placed Messenger marshalls. Then all let loose down to Thackwood where they were received a deserved certificate for taking part and treated to Bill Hogg’s lovely garden and hospitality along with a Free Church barbecue.
Well done to those who stretched their legs out along the keenies route. It was great to see new faces and a few older ones taking part. Thanks to all the marshal’s, to Helen Holgate, to first aider Jenny Fraser, Margaret, Eleanor, Liz and sweeper Simon and Harrison in the “sweeper wagon”. Hope you all had a fun time and whilst it’s not about the cause,
The bike ride raised a total of £265.00 for All Saints Church.
It breaks down as follows : Bike Ride £147.0, Refreshments £58.00 and Barbecue £60.00.
Thanks to all concerned and see you again next year.
